I suggest to assess the hole in crotch area right – first things first.
Some hole in crotch area is relatively small and easy to repair. Larger hole and surrounding area on the other hand could be more complex to be repaired and take up more time and in some cases specific material. But if that’s the case, a patch could be required to cover whole damaged part.

There is no rule on the technique of the repair. It is best to use what works for you.
Often small holes are easy to fix with hand sewing method.
Here is how I fix crotch seam
First I assess my pants for any additional damaged area.
Some questions to ask:
- Is the crotch seam stitch undone?
- Is it a small tear or rip?
- Is there lot of wear?
- Is it a big hole or more like a crotch blowouts?
- Are the jeans too tight?
- Any other signs of wear?
These are some of the questions that should help you to navigate for best strategy for the repair.

How to fix hole in crotch by hand with a needle and a thread
If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can fix crotch of your jeans with hand stitching methods.
1. Asses the damage
2. Gather your materials. You will need hand sewing needle, sewing thread in same color as your pants, scissors, straight pins. Optional is an ironing board and an iron.
3. Trim off any loose threads. Turn the pants inside out. Clean the ripped seam area and iron the edges of the hole flat.
4. Crotch rips. Arrange the outer fabric edge of the hole in crotch as it was originally. You can use straight pins to keep the two fabrics in place.
5. Sew the hole in crotch shut. Thread a hand sewing needle and tie a knot at the end of the piece of thread. Make sure you are sewing on wrong side of the garment.
The right sides of the upper thigh (hole in crotch area) needs to touch each other.
6. Overlock stitch by hand technique. It resembles a blanket stitch. So, if you are fixing a seam rip on sweat pants as you can see in the photo, a hand overlock stitch works well, as it looks similar to original stitch. This technique may not work on a pairs of jeans as those are finished with different types of seam.
